Image formats

General information​

Overview​

Image formats in Decidim need to respect clear guidance in order to appear properly. In order to limit loading time and improve platforma accessibility, Decidim automatically resizes and crops images to different sizes.

As a general rule, images sizes should be kept under 1Mb, and image names should not include any special characters ($!/’:.;?) or punctuation marks. Images width should not be bigger than 3400px max.

Also beware to avoid text or relevant information in your image, as images should be of illustrative purpose only: text content is rarely visible because images are cropped to screen size (i.e. on mobile phones), and text content is not indexable by search engines, therefore this information is not mapped as public, searchable information.

Options​

The perfect size for the logo image of the header is 600 x 160px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

The perfect size for the logo image of the footer is 600 x 180px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Browser tab icon​

The perfect size for the browser tab icon image is 75 x 75px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Homepage hero​

The perfect size for the main header image of the homepage is 1960 x 666px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Homepage highlighted content​

The perfect size for the highlighted content banner image is 1000 x 1000px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio. The reason why this ratio is square although the image appears wide on a desktop screen is because it appears square on a mobile phone.

Participatory spaces header​

The perfect size for the header image of processes and other participatory spaces is 1000 x 1000px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio. The reason why this ratio is square although the image appears wide on a desktop screen is because it appears square on a mobile phone.

Graphic tip:

Instead of struggling to find the best image, use a plain color image of the main color of your platform. This will help users focus on the content and improve your platform with a minimalistic look.

Newsletters​

The perfect size for the newsletter image of templates is 550 x 300px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Medium

The perfect size for the partner logo in a conference space is 600 x 160px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Thumbnail

The perfect size for the partner logo in a conference space is 200 x 55px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Conferences diplomas​

The perfect size for the diploma image of a conference space is 275 x 90px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Profile picture​

The perfect size for the profile picture of a user account is 536 x 640px . Anything different will be reduced and cropped to this ratio.

Smaller appeareaces of your profile picture will be respectively cropped to 80 x 80px and 40 x 40px.
